What are the website and email footer legal requirements in the UK?
Old news (we know) – but as a startup you may not already know this. Legally companies in the UK must include certain regulatory information in the footer of their website(s) and email(s). If your website footer or email signature does not contain such information you are breaking the Companies act and risk a fine.
Every company is required to list its company registration number, place of registration and registered office address on its website and email footers as a result of an update to the legislation on 1985. This information was already required on business letters but as a result of a update to legislation is now required on website and email footers, order forms and other online documents.
If your company is VAT registered it must also list its VAT number, even if the website is not being used for e-commerce purposes.
