We’ve gone through the process of registering a company to bring you all the information that you need to register your company. This guide will give you everything you need to register a limited company.

Registering a limited company is also known as incorporation.

£12 payable to Companies House.

Company Details

Assuming you are the only person running and owning the company we have provided some examples next to each requirement.

  • a suitable company name e.g. Start Smarter Limited
  • an address for the company e.g. 123 Guide Street, London, SE1 3EB
  • at least one director e.g. David Smith
  • details of the company’s shares e.g. David Smith
    to check what your SIC code is – this identifies what your company does i.e. In other words, what does you company do? Is it a barber, beauty salon, builder, estate agent? 

Director Details

There must be at least 1 director.

  • First name
  • Last name
  • Date of Birth (Must be 16 years or older)
  • Nationality
  • Occupation
  • Country of Residence
  • Residential Address
  • 3 Security Questions (these act as an online signature)
    • First three letters of Town of birth
    • Last three digits of Telephone number
    • First three letters of Eye colour

Shareholder Details 

There must be at least 1 shareholder. This can also be the same person as the director. For example, David Smith can be both the Director and the only shareholder.

  • First name
  • Last name
  • Residential Address
  • Share Currency (GBP, EUR, USD)
  • Number of Shares
  • Value Per Share
  • 3 Security Questions (these act as an online signature)
    • First three letters of Town of birth
    • Last three digits of a Telephone number
    • First three letters of Eye colour

Secretary Details (optional)

This is not necessary. Typically a startup won’t require a secretary and so you can skip this section. However, if you did want a secretary, below are the details you will need.

  • First name
  • Last name
  • Address
  • 3 Security Questions (these act as an online signature)
    • First three letters of Town of birth
    • Last three digits of a Telephone number
    • First three letters of Eye colour
